Day 18
This morning Velvet ate almost all of her feed and started munching grass when I let her and the goats outside. They all walked around grazing near the barn. I have not seen Velvet move faster than a walk yet, but as she and the goats moved farther from the barn I could see she was very alert. She strayed quite a bit farther than the goats and suddenly she lifted her head from grazing and began to trot. What a nice floating trot, her head and tail held high.
Velvet has a safety zone within 60 feet of the barn, which is where she trots back to after she realizes she has strayed too far. As the day progressed, the more I saw her move out of the safety zone with the goats. Soon she was cantering through the pasture, how pretty she is with her ears alert and tail flagging. No matter how hard I tried I did not have the camera ready when she was in action.
As normal routine I am grooming her and she loves it so much I see her eyes closing while I brush. I am also picking up her feet for short moments. Being so new to me and humans in general I want to take my time with tasks that may be scary to her. Luckily her feet stay clean being outside and also very clean bedding. As with the introduction of the halter I want to produce as many good feelings as possible, so Velvet remembers many positive associations with humans.
